Household Manager now records what you actually bought. Cooking still plans the meals. Shopping still builds the list from pantry stock. This slice is the trip: the list is no longer a checkbox. Need 3 kg of tomatoes and the store only has 2.5? Mark 2.5. Remaining 0.5 kg stays on the list. Need 3 eggs and you grab 5? Stock becomes 5, and the line is done. Each card already holds what’s left to buy. One click, no typing, means you bought that amount. A different number is a short aisle or an extra pack. Inventory only rises by the amount you enter. The trip writes a quantity, not a checkbox. That is the payload I want the agent to see: bought 2.5 kg, 0.5 kg still open, stock +2.5. Screenshots: tomatoes after 2.5 of 3 kg, with 0.5 still to buy; then the same week after the last 0.5 kg and eggs bought as 5 of 3. Video is the trip. Maintenance and cleaning come later. Household Manager now tells you when to start cooking. Cooking already plans the meals. Shopping already fills the list. Next slice: the Cooking Agent estimates preparation time as structured output. A scheduler then uses Laravel Notifications to mail you that many minutes before the meal is served. Flow is simple. Each meal stores prep time in minutes — dishes in parallel when that is practical. The same every-minute scheduler that handles serving fires at `served_at - prep`. You get one mail: start now, this is dinner, here are the dishes. Each meal is notified once. The screenshot is tonight’s dinner: served at 21:00, about 30 minutes of prep. A 00:15 meal with 30 minutes of prep notifies at 23:45 the day before. That wrap has to work or the clock is a toy. Household Manager now shops. Second piece is live: a Shopping Agent on Laravel AI SDK. Cooking still plans the meals. Shopping looks at the pantry and only puts on the list what you don’t already have. Flow is simple. Cooking Agent plans next week’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When you serve a meal, stock goes down — meal times don’t invent extra dishes anymore. Shopping Agent reads the week’s ingredients, subtracts what’s in inventory, and that’s the list. Inventory is grouped the way a store is grouped: Produce, Dairy, Meat and fish, and so on. Units follow Metric or US from Cooking settings. Each item gets a generated product photo. Mark it purchased and stock goes up. Screenshots: Produce on the shelf, the category grid, then this week’s list (Aug 31–Sep 6) with to-buy vs in stock. Maintenance and cleaning come later. Household Manager now cooks. First function is live: a per-user CookingAgent on Laravel AI SDK. You set breakfast, lunch, and dinner times, how many people, city/country, and any dietary notes as plain text. How it works: 1. Location is geocoded. Cuisine and ingredients should fit that place. 2. A scheduler runs every minute. At each meal time in the user’s timezone, a job calls the agent. 3. The agent returns structured dishes: ingredients, cooking instructions, serving instructions — plus a generated photo of the plated meal. 4. It remembers the conversation, so the menu varies instead of repeating the same dish three days in a row. There is a Cooking settings screen and a Meals calendar. Open a day and you get breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Shopping, maintenance, and cleaning come later. This is the first slice that actually does something at 8:00, not only in a chat window. This week I started a new build series. Building an intelligent Household Manager agent with the official Laravel AI SDK + agentic development in Cursor. Users will instruct it through a web app. Starting domains: Cooking & meal prep Food shopping House maintenance Cleaning The repo is currently a clean skeleton with the SDK already wired up. I’ll develop it in stages and post ~2× per week (same content here and on LinkedIn). Goal: test the Laravel AI SDK end-to-end — agents, tools, structured output, memory, queues, testing — while staying fully in the Laravel/PHP world. First real progress post next week.
